Akwesasne, ON, June 5, 2025 — The Seaway International Bridge Corporation (SIBC) wishes to advise commuters and stakeholders that an important paving and maintenance project began on the South Channel Bridge on June 2, 2025. This planned work is designed to improve the bridge’s driving surface, ensuring a smoother and safer journey for all users.
The work will take place in phases and is expected to continue until mid-September 2025, with final paving scheduled to occur after Labour Day. Construction activities will take place Monday through Thursday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. SIBC encourages commuters to plan for potential delays during these times.
During this period:
- Intermittent lane closures and traffic delays should be expected.
- Temporary changes to traffic patterns may occur to accommodate equipment and personnel.
- Every effort will be made to minimize disruption while ensuring the safety of workers and commuters.
“This paving project is a key investment in the Seaway International Bridge system, aimed at delivering a much-improved and more reliable driving experience for years to come,” said Marc Chénier, Bridge Director of SIBC. “While we understand that construction can cause temporary inconvenience, the long-term benefits of a revitalized bridge surface are substantial. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we complete this essential maintenance.”
